Government offices closing for holidays

Starting Friday, government offices in the Chattanooga area will be closing for the holidays.

Chattanooga City Hall will be closed officially on Monday and Jan. 2.

The Wood Recycle Center, Refuse Collection Centers and Recycle Collection Centers will close at noon Saturday. Recycle Collection Centers and Refuse Collection Centers will reopen Monday, and the Wood Recycle Center will reopen Tuesday.

People can dispose of Christmas trees at the Wood Recycle Center, or they can call 311 for curbside collection, city Sanitation Manager Justin Holland said in a news release.

There will be no CARTA service on Christmas and New Year's days, and CARTA's administrative offices will be closed Monday and Jan. 2.

Government offices in Hamilton County will be closed Monday and Tuesday and also on Jan. 2.

Auto emissions testing centers in Hamilton County will be closed Saturday and Monday and Dec. 31 and Jan. 2.

In Red Bank, non-emergency city offices will be closed Friday, Monday and Jan. 2.

East Ridge offices will be closed Friday, Monday and Jan. 2. There are also changes to the city's garbage and recycling schedules.

Those on the north side of Ringgold Road and Ringgold Road businesses will have their garbage collected on Tuesday and Jan. 3 if they are regularly scheduled to have garbage collected on Monday and Jan. 2. Those on the south side of Ringgold Road will have garbage collected Wednesday and Jan. 4.

East Ridge residents who would otherwise have their recycling picked up on Friday will have it picked up today, and recycling will be picked up for everyone on Dec. 30.

Bradley County and Cleveland, Tenn., offices will be closed Friday, Monday, Dec. 30 and Jan. 2. However, the city clerk's office in Cleveland will be open on Dec. 30 to collect property taxes.

Government offices in Walker County, Catoosa County, Fort Oglethorpe, Dalton and Ringgold, Ga., will be closed on Friday, Monday and Jan. 2.

In Dalton, garbage and recycling will be picked up on Jan. 3 instead of Jan. 2.

Whitfield County, Ga., offices will be closed Friday, Monday and Jan. 2 for holidays and will also be closed on Dec. 30 for an employee furlough day.

Volunteer Energy Cooperative will close its customer service centers and corporate office on Jan. 2.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation is stopping all temporary lane closures on interstates and state highways from noon on Friday until 6 a.m. on Jan. 2.

Banks will be closed and there will be no mail delivery on Monday and Jan. 2.
