Prep basketball standouts for Dec. 30

  • Chelsey Wiseman, Grundy County: Behind the senior's career-high 40 points, the Lady Yellow Jackets beat Fairhope, Ala., 71-56 in the White County Sonic Shootout basketball tournament at Sparta.

  • Helen Simoes, Hamilton Heights: She tied her career best by scoring 30 points, including six 3-point goals, in the Lady Hawks' 71-34 victory over the host school in the South Pittsburg Christmas Classic. The senior also had nine steals.

  • Selena Popp, Baylor: With her team trailing, the seldom-used freshman made a 3-point shot with 20 seconds to play for her only points and the Lady Red Raiders edged Owensboro Catholic 55-54 in the National Guard Armory Classic at Owensboro, Ky. Teammates

  • Anna Peters, Bledsoe County: Albeit in a 73-60 loss to Knoxville's Grace Christian in the Midway Holliday Classic, she totaled 28 points and 12 rebounds.

  • Brooke Copeland, Bradley Central: She was the MVP of the Rock Holiday Tournament at Orlando, Fla., after scoring a game-high 12 points for the 14-1 Bearettes in the 52-34 championship win over Concordia from Nebraska.

  • Mikayla Crowder, Sale Creek: Her 18 points led the Lady Panthers to a 52-48 win over Central in the Hixson Wildcat Classic.

  • Marissa Hill, Hixson: Her 16 points paced the host girls to a 50-31 victory over Hillwod in the Hixson Wildcat Classic.

  • Mariah Massengill, Silverdale Baptist: She scored all but 10 of her team's 29 points in a 66-29 loss to Calhoun in the Gordon County Christmas tournament.

  • Jervon Johnson, Ooltewah: His 21 points helped Ooltewah defeat fellow TSSAA member Dickson County 62-58 in the boys' championship game in the Bay Hill Classic at Panama City, Fla., and he was chosen the tournament's most valuable player.

  • Daniel Cartwright, Sequatchie County: He scored 31 points as the Indians improved to 13-2 with a 56-43 win over Hamilton Heights in the South Pittsburg tournament.

  • Lance Estus, LaFayette: He had 19 rebounds and 15 points in the championship game of the Comcast Christmas Tournament his team hosted, but the Ramblers fell 63-61 in double overtime to Coosa.

  • Andrew Duncan, North Sand Mountain: His 24 points paced a 75-59 win over South Pittsburg.

  • Demetric Johnson, South Pittsburg: The football star scored 22 points in a losing cause for the basketball Pirates.

  • Jalen Smith, Rhea County: He scored 21 points in the Golden Eagles' 67-59 loss to Austin-East in the Maryville tournament.

  • David Holley, Central: He scored 15 points with four 3-point baskets as the Purple Pounders topped Sale Creek 58-47 in the Hixson Wildcat Classic.

  • Travis Murphy, Tyner: His 14 points were the game high as the Rams went to 12-1 with a 59-43 defeat of Gordon Central in the Gordon County tournament in Calhoun.
