TBI: Sequatchie body identified

Friday, February 4, 2011

TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm says the body found Thursday in the Sequatchie River south of Dunlap has been identified as 55-year-old Clifford Carden Jr.

In an e-mail, Helm said she didn't have information on Carden's residence. She said his burned car also was found Thursday, but she couldn't say where.

The medical examiner is working to determine a cause of death while investigators continue to seek a suspect, Helm said in the e-mail.

Sequatchie County Sheriff Ronnie Hitchcock said more information will be released at a news conference later today in Dunlap.

Hitchcock said investigators have approached the incident as a homicide from the beginning when officers arriving on the scene found blood on the riverbank.

The body was found a little after 10 a.m. CST Thursday by a man who was collecting aluminum cans along East Valley Road, he said.
