Lee teams sweep Emmanuel in SSAC

Lee University defeated visiting Emmanuel College twice in Southern States Athletic Conference basketball Saturday, 71-55 in the women's game and 80-63 in the men's.

Lee's Lady Flames, ranked 11th in NAIA Division I, got 23 points from Brooke McKinnon, who hit three of three 3-point shots while teammate Madison Lee was making three of four. Kayla Carlisle added 10 points and two blocked shots for Lee (18-4, 8-1). Aubany Thomas and Ashley Jackson scored 19 and 15 points for the Lady Lions (12-10, 5-5).

Antonio Haymon had 21 points and seven rebounds and Jerel Blocker and Stephen McClellan scored 16 and 14 points to lead the 15th-ranked Flames (19-5, 7-1). Johnny Godette had five assists. They shot 56 percent while holding Emmanuel (19-6, 4-4) to 31.7 percent. The second-half difference was 65.4 percent to 24.2 percent.

n At Athens, Tenn., Tennessee Wesleyan split with Reinhardt in Appalachian Athletic Conference play, as the 19th-ranked (NAIA Division II) Lady Bulldogs won 71-64 before the Bulldogs lost 81-64. Heather Gibson and Cody Houck scored 15 points each, Gibson with eight rebounds, for the TWC women (22-3, 10-0), and Leah Frazier scored 14. Kinsey Galyon's 18 led Reinhardt.

Justin Hicks and E'Jay Ward scored 13 and 12 points for the TWC men, and Isaiah Kirk had nine rebounds. Ishmael John led four double-figure scorers for the Eagles with 14 points.

n At Milligan, the host school swept Bryan in AAC play, the Lady Buffs winning 74-54 despite 23 points from Anna Thomas and the first-place Buffaloes giving the 23rd-ranked Lions their second straight loss, 74-62. Scott Newton scored 18 points and Keith Bauer had 10 rebounds for the Bryan men (17-8, 7-3), while Kyle Grisby and Hudson Fricke had 24 and 19 points for Milligan (13-10, 9-1).

n Friday at Sewanee, Katelyn Wilson's jump shot with one second to go gave Birmingham-Southern a 60-58 women's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win, and the BSC men won 78-53 after falling behind 37-9 against the 17-1 Panthers. Sam Martin led the Tigers (8-12, 3-9) with 13 points.

The BSC women are 9-3 in the league and outrebounded the Tigers 58-33 but were tied for the last two minutes against a Sewanee team that is 0-11 in the SCAC and 2-18 overall. Dana Middleton had 18 points and four steals for Sewanee, while Claire Elliott scored 16 points, Clarissa Medley had eight rebounds and Dani Kabbes blocked three shots. Alex Adams had 18 points and 17 rebounds for the Panthers, who were just 4-of-28 on 3s.
