Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville recently signed three local girls' soccer players: Brooke Gann of East Ridge and Hannah Squires and Ryan Alosi of Silverdale Baptist.
Gann averaged 20 goals per season for East Ridge, being used as the main offensive weapon. The 5-foot-8 senior had 22 goals and five assists this past season.
"She's great," Lady Pioneers coach Jeremy McIntyre said. "The one thing I've loved about her is that she's not just a great player, but she also has a great work ethic in both practice and the classroom."
McIntyre noted that Gann never missed a practice or game in her four-year career.
Alosi was a four-year starter for the Lady Seahawks, while Squires started her senior season after transferring from Ooltewah before her junior year. The two combined for 31 goals and 14 assists in 2010, when Silverdale advanced to the Region 3-A/AA semifinals. Alosi was a three-time all-district honoree.
"Both of these young ladies are outstanding players and leaders. It was like having two coaches on the field," Lady Seahawks coach Chris Neighbors said. "They are excellent students as well, so I am very excited that they will have the opportunity to play soccer and continue their education. I know that they will excel over the next four years."
Dade's Burton resigns
Dade County softball coach Stan Burton has resigned after one season. He directed Dade to a 24-14 record that included a berth in the Class AA state tournament last fall.
"We haven't hired anyone yet, but we hope to in the coming weeks," athletic director Bradley Warren said. "He did not give me a reason, and he has been retained as a baseball assistant and teacher."
