2 boys dead, dad, sibling wounded near Atlanta

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Two young children were either stabbed or shot to death and their father and their 9-year-old brother were in the hospital Wednesday night after an attack at their home in an Atlanta suburb, police said.

Police found the bodies of the 1-year-old and 4-year-old Wednesday night in the home and the wounded child was flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, Gwinnett County police Cpl. Jake Smith told reporters near the scene. He says the wounded child was flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. The boys' father was in serious condition at Gwinnett Medical Center, he said.

Police have identified suspects, but no one was in custody, Smith said. He declined to elaborate.

The children's mother was not home and has been found unhurt, he said.

The subdivision is in an unincorporated part of Gwinnett County across from the fairgrounds. Two families live in the home, he said.

Neighbors said they feel safe in the subdivision, partly because they pay fees to their neighborhood association for extra police patrols.

"My God, this is crazy," eight-year resident Jimmy Holland told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
