Sick Mocs board bus to game

Friday, February 11, 2011

Keegan Bell boarded the team bus with a needle in his arm and a trainer holding a bag of intravenous fluid above his head.

Omar Wattad followed with the same assistance.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga starting guards - in addition to Jeff Smith and Jeremy Saffore - have been cleared to play tonight when the Mocs face Western Carolina at 7 p.m. in the Ramsey Activity Center.

"The doc thinks we could get about 50 percent out of them," coach John Shulman said. "Jeff is OK. Jeremy is OK. Keegan and Omar will have an interesting bus trip."

Four players coming down with influenza forced a postponement of a game that was supposed to be played last night.

It was originally moved to Monday, then back to tonight.

"We look like a good team right here, don't we?" coach John Shulman joked before Bell and Wattad found their seats. "Athletics is athletics and we'll figure it out on the road."
