Nominate outstanding women in STEM

Saturday, February 19, 2011

Women who have made great accomplishments in their professional careers in the areas of science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) are eligible for nomination to receive the first Supernova award.

The award will be presented by the Young Women's Leadership Academy Foundation on May 10 at the Odyssey 2011 luncheon. Four finalists will be recognized, with one of them being named the award recipient.

"YWLAF has established the Supernova awards to recognize the invaluable contributions women are making to help position Chattanooga as a leader in the STEM fields," said Maxine Bailey, executive director of YWLAF and co-founder of the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy.

"The winner will stand as a role model to inspire young women to consider the rewards of careers in traditionally male-dominated professions."

Eligible nominees must currently work and/or live in the Hamilton County area. Nominations may be made by local companies or individuals. Self-nominations are also welcome.

Nomination deadline is Friday, March 11, at 5 p.m. Nominations will not be accepted after that date.
