East Ridge man arrested for taking his own child

An East Ridge man is being held in Dade County, Ga., for kidnapping and aggravated assault charges back home, police said.

Sarah Foster told officers Sunday that a court had awarded her temporary custody of her 18-month-old nephew. The child's biological father, Adam Foster, became angry when he found out, according to a news release from Officer Erik Hopkins, spokesman for the East Ridge Police Department.

At a home at 526 S. Seminole Drive, Adam Foster, 25, then went to the child's crib, grabbed the child and began to leave, Hopkins said.

Several people residence pleaded with him to leave the child, but he "pushed his way to his vehicle," backed out of the driveway and nearly hit Sarah Foster before fleeing the scene, Hopkins said.

Police issued an Amber alert for Adam Foster, who was last seen driving toward Georgia on Interstate 24. Officers contacted him by phone, learning that he'd gone to his father's home in Dade County, Ga.

An East Ridge Tactical Patrol officer convinced Adam Foster to surrender to authorities, Hopkins said. Dade County deputies found the child with his father, he said.

Foster is being held at the Dade County Jail until he is extradited to Tennessee, Hopkins said.
