Between seven and nine inches of snow have already settled in the Chattanooga area - an amount local meteorologists say they haven't seen since the blizzard of 1993.

Final totals for snow accumulation have yet to be calculated, but so far this is the largest single-day total since the 18.5 inches of snow Chattanooga saw during the blizzard, according to Sam Roberts with the National Weather Service in Morristown, Tenn.

The last time the city saw amounts similar to today's was January 27, 1968, when it got 6.8 inches, said Roberts.

"The Chattanooga area definitely got the brunt of this storm in Tennessee," Roberts said.

The Knoxville airport reported four inches, while Morristown received between one and two, he said.

More scattered snow showers are expected throughout the day, with slight levels of accumulation expected. Tomorrow there is more chance for snow, although Roberts said it is possible the snow will mix with rain and freezing rain.

"We don't really get out of this until Wednesday when we see it partly sunny," he said. "Though even then there are concerns of re-freezing as we see lower temperatures."

Thursday and Friday are expected to be mostly sunny, with highs in the low 30s.
