Hamilton County: Interstate 75 drivers report "terrible" road conditions in Atlanta

Drivers heading north on Interstate 75 throughout the day have said road conditions in Atlanta are "terrible."

Some drivers who stopped at the Tennessee Welcome Center on I-75 just outside Georgia said snow and ice around Atlanta had roadways around that city slick and dangerous. Several said the Interstate 285 bypass around Atlanta was snarled, with traffic down from 5 lanes down to 2.

Truck driver James Warner, who drove through Atlanta this morning heading toward Indianapolis, Ind., said the roadway was "pretty treacherous and icy."

John McDermott, of Charleston, SC., stayed in Cartersville, Ga., overnight after making his way out of Atlanta Tuesday night.

Many motorists said that once they left Atlanta the roadways seemed to be much clearer as they headed north.
