Alabama murder suspect kills himself in DeKalb County

A DeKalb County man who was being investigated for the death of his wife in December killed himself today.

Police believe Johnny Daniel Carden, 28, shot himself when Alabama State Troopers and Jackson County deputies tried to pull him over on Alabama Highway 27 about 11 a.m., said DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris in a news release.

Carden was a suspect in the death of his wife, Jennifer, who died on Dec. 26 at the couple's home in Henagar, Harris said.

When an officer saw Carden's vehicle this morning, he turned on his lights to make a traffic stop, Harris said, but Carden pulled into the median and shot himself.

"It is a sad occasion anytime a person loses their life," Harris said. "I hate that this happened, and it's a real tragedy for everybody involved."
