Rodney Martin, 40, turned himself in to police. He was wanted on charged of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.A man suspected in a Monday night shooting fired on police officers today as they were trying to arrest him.
Tobias Pruitt, 37, was the suspect in a shooting Monday at 3311 Delong St., said Sgt. Jerri Weary, spokeswoman for the Chattanooga Police Department. Investigators with the Crime Suppression Unit, which handles gang-related crime, located him today at 3116 Chambliss St. and tried to apprehend him, but he ran, then turned and shot at the officers, Weary said.
Two officers exchanged gunfire with before Pruitt threw down his weapon and surrendered, she said. Neither Pruitt nor the officers were shot in the exchange.
Police were looking for Pruitt and another man, Rodney Martin, 40, both of whom had warrants for aggravated assault and reckless endangerment in connection with the Monday night shooting, Weary said.
On that night, Edrick Smith told police he and Martin were at a party earlier and had fought over liquor. Smith said he left the party and went home.
Smith said he later went outside and told police he saw Martin and Pruitt, who began shooting at him. Smith ducked behind a vehicle in the yard and the other two fled, she said.
Martin turned himself in to police today shortly after Pruitt was taken into custody, Weary said.
Both Pruitt and Martin were arrested on the outstanding warrants for aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, Weary said, and Pruitt will face additional charges for today's shooting incident.
