ATLANTA - Dalton's David Noll Jr. won the 90th Georgia Amateur golf tournament by four shots with a 4-under-par 66 Sunday on the Cherokee Town and Country Club's North Course. Noll, the 2003 Georgia Amateur winner and the GSGA player of the year the last four years, finished with a 72-hole total of 274, and Roswell's William Mitchell was second at 278. Calhoun's Chad Wilson finished 15th at 288 with a closing 73. Noll, who led by a stroke after Saturday's round, parred his first five holes Sunday and then made a 25-foot uphill putt for a birdie on No. 6 while his closest challenger at the time three-putted to fall three strokes back. Noll missed a one-footer for a bogey on No. 8 and said later that it was "the best thing that happened to me today. ... As embarrassing as it was, it really brought me back down to reality. In hindsight, it helped me out because it helped me refocus a little bit." He was the Georgia Amateur runner-up in 2005 and '09 and has finished sixth or better each of the last seven years.
• MOULTRIE, Ga. - The Baylor Diving Club's Emily Pelletier added to her credentials for the Junior Olympic national diving meet July 29-Aug. 6 in Knoxville with 11th-place 3- and 1-meter finishes Saturday and Sunday in the 14-15 girls' age group of the Zone D Championships at the Moose Moss Aquatic Center. Top-12 finishers earn national spots. Teammates Marissa Roth and Madison McCoon had qualified with her for the nationals in platform diving Thursday but did not qualify in the weekend events. Roth was 16th in 3-meter and 20th in 1-meter in 14-15 girls, and McCoon was 17th in 3-meter and 18th in 1-meter in 14-15 boys.
• Bobby Mayse of Harrison won the Late Model race Saturday night at Cleveland Speedway - his first victory there this year. Pole-sitter Rick Hixson was second, and Riley Hickman, Andy Picklesimer and Brian Pritchard were third through fifth. Glen Seaton III won the Limited Late Model race and then the $500 Lottery Challenge. The Southern All-Stars bring their Super Late Model action to the track for the 21st annual Budweiser Jean Johnson Memorial this Saturday.
