Heat advisory issued for Georgia
Hot weather is continuing in Georgia, and the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for northern and central parts of the state.
The Weather Service says highs in the 90s to about 100 can be expected for most of the state today, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Temperatures a few degrees cooler are forecast for Thursday.
Highs reached well into the 90s on Monday, with Atlanta topping out at 95 and Columbus at 98.
The state Environmental Protection Division says the air quality index for metro Atlanta on Tuesday was 108, an orange alert with the air considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.
Rockholt to leave city school board
Evelyn Rockholt is leaving the Cleveland Board of Education in August, she announced Monday.
Rockholt was elected to the board from the city's 1st District in 2004 and re-elected in 2008. Her term expires in 2012.
Her husband, Chuck Rockholt, former Cleveland High School principal, recently retired from the city school system.
They are moving to Florida to be nearer family and answer "the call of the grandchildren," she said.
She said highlights of her service have included serving while the Cleveland High science wing was planned and built and the selection of Dr. Martin Ringstaff as the city schools director.
Board Chairwoman Peggy Pesterfield said she accepted the resignation with sadness "but I understand about the grandkids."
The resignation is effective Aug. 3, the day after the public dedication of the science wing.
Indian music comes to market
A winner of an American Indian music award will bring his talent to the Five Points Farmers Market on Thursday.
Michael Jacobs began his career as a songwriter and guitarist in Nashville. His debut CD, "Sacred Nation," received the 2003 Native American Music Award for best independent recording. His latest recording, "Chasing the Wind," recently was nominated for four 2010 Indian Summer Awards.
The Five Points Market is held each Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at First Street Square downtown through the growing season. Vendor spaces are free.

Spray paint sales to minors banned
The sale of spray paint to minors will be banned in Shelby County, effective July 25.
The Shelby County Commission voted 9-3 on Monday to bar stores from selling cans of pressurized paint and so-called "graffiti sticks" to anyone under 18. Graffiti sticks contain a solid form of paint that is applied by pressure.
The ban will apply to areas of the county outside the city limits of Memphis, according to The Commercial Appeal.
