Inmate dies in Georgia jail

GAINESVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to investigate the death of an inmate in the Hall County jail.

The Times of Gainesville reports that the 29-year-old inmate was found unresponsive in his cell Friday night in the jail's medical section. Medical staffers tried unsuccessfully to revive the inmate.

The Hall County Sheriff's office says the inmate, whom it would not immediately identify, suffered from chronic medical conditions. It did not suspect foul play in the death. The inmate had been in the jail since February 2010 and recently received a five-year sentence for child molestation.

Agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation typically investigate the deaths of any inmates who die in custody.
