HOOVER, Ala. — Florida senior tailback Jeff Demps, who led the Gators last season with 551 yards and averaged 6.0 yards a carry, is currently in Italy preparing for a track meet with the U.S. National Team.
Demps, the NCAA 60-meter champion last year, did not go through spring practice but sat in on the meetings. His absence from the field has led to Internet speculation that the 5-foot-8, 188-pounder from Winter Garden would leave the team to focus solely on track.
First-year Gators coach Will Muschamp said he will meet next week with Demps to discuss joining the team.
"Based on our conversations, he'll be back," Muschamp said. "I don't deal with rumors."
