Roller rink owner pushed kids away as gunfire erupted

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The owner of a Texas skating rink says he shoved children out of harm's way when a parent suddenly opened fire on his estranged wife and her family at a birthday party.

Forum Roller World owner Walt Hedrick says the Saturday night shooting that left six dead in Grand Prairie lasted just moments.

Hedrick said Sunday he was about 40 feet away from the gunman, whose son was celebrating his 11th birthday at the rink.

Police say the gunman told the children to leave the area before he began shooting. He later killed himself.

Hedrick says he'll re-open the skating rink Sunday afternoon to show that skating is still a fun and safe activity for parents and kids.
