A DeKalb County sheriff's deputy caught a man leaving a scrap yard with a truck full of copper wiring early Thursday morning, officials said.

The truck driver, identified as 20-year-old Ethan Heaton, of Crossville, was arrested, Sheriff Jimmy Harris said in a news release.

The officer was passing by Scrap Dogs Recycling and Dowdle Gas Co. at 4:45 a.m. when he noticed a vehicle with its lights off move behind a gas company office, Harris said. When the truck pulled onto Highway 75, the officer stopped and questioned the driver, the sheriff said.

Heaton was charged with criminal trespass second degree and theft of property second degree. He is being held in the DeKalb County Jail without bond, Harris said.

The suspect's truck was impounded for inventory and further investigation, the sheriff said.
