Jerrico Hawthorne nabbed in robbery, fatal shooting

The man suspected in a home robbery where two people were shot, one fatally, has been taken into custody, Chattanooga police said today.

Jerrico Hawthorne was located at the Motel 6 at 7707 Lee Highway and was taken into custody about 10 a.m., according to police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.

He was wanted in connection with a double shooting and robbery Thursday on East 17th St.

Police said the assailant and another man came into the home and demanded money at gunpoint.

James Frederick Williams, 23, was shot several times in the chest and died at the scene.

His girlfriend, Yetta Harris, 38, was shot in the stomach and chest but is expected to survive, police said.

On Thursday, Weary said drugs may have been a factor in the attack because detectives found narcotics in the home.

Today, she didn't say what charges Hawthorne will face.
