Wednesday, June 1, 2011

Volkswagen wants to start assembing its Tiguan compact sport utility vehicle in North America to help trim costs, a German magazine reported, citing management sources.

WirtschaftsWoche said that it has not been established if the Tiguan would be produced at the Chattanooga facility or at VW's plant in Pueblo, Mexico.

According to Reuters, WirtschaftsWoche magazine reported in a release from its Monday issue that a proposal to also produce the Tiguan in North America may soon be decided by the board.

The Tiguan is currently only produced in Volkswagen's Wolfsburg plant in North Germany. The Chattanooga plant is producing the midsize Passat sedan.
