We love pets, but ...

Nearly all children, and lots of adults, too, enjoy having pets. For animal lovers, it’s interesting, calming and pleasant to have them around. But pets do require care.

So it was a shock to many when workers from the Humane Educational Society of Hamilton County removed — count ’em — 44 cats and eight dogs from in and around a single Apison home this week.

The animals fortunately did not show signs of serious neglect, but officials called it a troubling case of animal hoarding.

Yes, we love our pets, but we do want to be sure that they are properly cared for. The Humane Educational Society obviously seeks to live up to that name in its important services.
