The co-owner of the Dalton, Ga., UPS store and its manager were arrested again but this time the couple was accused of stealing packages from the store, police said.

The two were arrested last month and charged with stealing Target gift cards that were supposed to be shipped from the UPS store to tornado victims in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Edward Copenhaver, 45, and Margaret Carlisle, 26, both of Middle Summit Drive in Dalton, have been charged with misdemeanor theft by receiving after police searched their home and found a reported missing jacket from the UPS store on Walnut Avenue, said police spokesman Bruce Frazier.

Dalton police already were investigating reports of missing money at the UPS location when the two were arrested by police in Alpharetta, Ga., in connection with the tornado gift cards, Frazier said. After the media reports on the couple, more complaints came forward of missing property that was supposed to be shipped from the store, he said.

Copenhaver is the co-owner of the Dalton UPS store and the store in Alpharetta, Ga., said UPS spokeswoman Becca Andrews.

An internal investigation is being conducted by UPS, but no action has been taken because the charges are only allegations at this point, Andrews said.

"[But] we definitely take these things seriously," she said.

After gift cards were reported stolen in Alpharetta, about 150 UPS Store franchise owners in the metro Atlanta areaset up a bank account to raise money for the tornado victims.

Since the account was set up, $7,000 has been raised and given to an Alpharetta church, Andrews.

Meanwhile, the Dalton investigation is still ongoing and more charges may follow, Frazier said.
