Man shot dead in College Hill Courts

A 20-year-old man was shot to death early today by others who got out of a car and began firing into a crowd, Chattanooga police said.

Cecil Timmons was pronounced dead at Erlanger hospital of a gunshot wound to the chest, according to police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.

Police were called to 1337 Cypress Street Court just before 3:30 a.m., Weary said.

Witnesses told police that a white, four-door vehicle had circled the block around Maple Street Courts and returned shortly after with its lights turned off. Two or three black males got out of the car and at least one of them shot into the crowd where Timmons was standing.

Timmons ran away but collapsed after a few steps, Weary said. She said police have leads in the case.

This is the city's 14th homicide so far this year.
