Wofford holds off UNC Greensboro

Thursday, March 3, 2011

Wofford nearly let a 20-point second-half lead slip away tonight at McKenzie Arena, but the 11th-seeded Terriers held off a big rally by UNC Greensboro to advance in the Southern Conference women's basketball tournament.

The Terriers survived 69-64 and will face the third-seeded University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Saturday.

Wofford led 40-29 at the half and had the lead at 51-31 with 17:05 to play after a very strong start to the second period. After that, the No. 6 seeded Spartans rallied.

The Spartans' Brey Dorsett had a chance to tie the game at 65 with 53.2 seconds left, but she only hit 1 of 2 free throws. April Moorhouse, who scored a game-high 20 points, hit two free throws for Wofford to seal the win.
