Two were charged in the Friday afternoon shooting of a 25-year-old man whose head wound left him in critical condition Friday night, according to the Chattanooga Police Department.

A large bloodstain on the sidewalk at 1208 Sheridan Ave. remained behind yellow crime scene tape after Ronald J. Blackmon Jr. was taken to Erlanger hospital.

Edward Ryals Jr., 18, was charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault. Demetrius Bibbs, 18, was charged with accessory after the fact on attempted first-degree murder and accessory after the fact on aggravated assault.

Witnesses told police Blackmon was standing outside a home and that they saw a black and gray vehicle traveling slowly on Wilson Street.

As the car approached Sheridan Avenue, the vehicle stopped, and someone inside fired several shots.

The vehicle continued west on Wilson toward North Holtzclaw Avenue.

Nearby residents said they heard five gunshots.

Police examined bullet holes in the rear window of a white sedan, a utility pole and nearby windows.

The shooting scene at the corner of Wilson Street and Sheridan Avenue was the same place where a fight between two feuding families led to the fatal shooting of James Domnick Sherrell on Feb 18. Margaret Harris was charged in connection with his death.

"I just buried another homeboy last week," said a witness who watched Blackmon fall. He walked around the scene, still in shock.

"They just pulled up and started shooting," the witness said.

Police interviewed two people Friday afternoon and said the shooting was gang-related. Residents said the shooting happened after a fight Thursday night.
