St. Patrick's Day celebrations are spreading like clover around the Scenic City - too many to list them all together, so we're, um, Dublin up. You'll find St. Patrick's Day musical events here and other activities on Page 17.

Shamrock concert

The second annual ShamRock concert is tonight at 6 at the LaFayette-Walker County Public Library, 305 S. Duke St. in LaFayette, Ga. Ambience, Savanah and the Jakes, Corey Rose, Aaron Colton and other teen acts are scheduled to perform at this after-hours show.

Those in attendance may vote for their favorite by adding $1 donations to each artist's jar. All funds will go to future teen programming and materials. Call 706-638-2992 for more information.

Shamrock City

Music is a main draw at Rock City's fourth annual Irish celebration, Shamrock City, taking place from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Celtic and Highlands music will be performed by The Molly Maguires, City of Chattanooga Pipe Band, Celtic Plain, Olta, Pay the Reckoning and Castlebay.

Between acts, visitors can see a green waterfall cascading down Lookout Mountain while they sample Mulligan stew and learn how to dance an Irish jig. Also available to taste will be green fudge and specialty beers, as well as green tea lattes and cappuccinos from Starbucks.

For the kids there are Lucky Clover Makeovers and Lucky Shamrock Treasure Map Adventures.

Through Thursday, guests may purchase green shamrocks ($1) or gold shamrocks ($5). Proceeds will be donated to the Chattanooga district of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Before and after

Charles & Myrtle's Coffeehouse, 105 McBrien Road, bookends the week with two performances by Irish-style musicians. Saturday, the folk duo Castlebay will perform at 8 p.m. (following a 2 p.m. set at Rock City). On March 18, Paddy Keenan, formerly of The Bothy Band, will show his prowess on Irish Uilleann pipes. Suggested admission donation is $10 for either show. Call 892-3109 for more information.

CELTIC FUSION

The Lake Trio will present a lecture recital featuring music of the Irish diaspora Wednesday at Chattanooga State Community College.

The recital, a fusion of Irish, American and Caribbean folk music, features Paul Vogler, percussion and tenor banjo; Paul Newkirk, guitar, mandolin and vocals; and Dave Holland, percussion.

The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Humanities Theatre, 4501 Amnicola Highway.

Admission is free, though donations will be accepted at the door.

Fireside Night

The monthly Fireside Nights concert at the Rock City Starbucks will feature Eryn Jones on Celtic harp Thursday. The free performance is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. around the fire. Visit www.seerockcity.com for more information.

Irish Jam

Local musicians John Lathim and Michelle Young will combine their vocal harmonies and acoustic instruments to perform a variety of Irish, Celtic and mountain music from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at The Honest Pint, 35 Patten Parkway. They'll be joined by Tim Starnes on mountain fiddle and lap steel guitar and by Stephen Smith on bass.

Celtic Rock

Coyote Run, billed as "the thinking person's Celtic rock band," will be in concert Thursday at the Palace Theater in Crossville, Tenn.

Formed in 1999, the band originally focused on Celtic folk music, eventually weaving a tapestry of rock, jazz and flamenco hooks into its sound. The four musicians play bagpipes, guitars, accordion, whistles, didgeridoo, electric bass and drums, among other instruments.

The show starts at 7 p.m. CDT at the theater, 72 S. Main St. Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for children. Tickets may be purchased in advance through the Cumberland County Playhouse at 931-484-5000 or www.ccplayhouse.com (click tickets, then the show date).

A matinee show, at 12:30 p.m., is an educational outreach for students and seniors (55 and older). Tickets are $3 for students, $5 for seniors.
