Man guilty of sex assault in Texas gets 195 years

SAN SABA, Texas - A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to nearly two centuries in a Texas prison for the sexual abuse of a 7-year-old relative.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott on Monday announced the sentence for Preston Lamar Thomas.

A jury in San Saba (san SAH'-buh) convicted Thomas, who was indicted in February 2010, of three felony aggravated sexual assault of a child charges.

Jurors sentenced the defendant to 65 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for each of the three counts. Judge Guilford Jones on March 1 ordered the sentences to be served consecutively, adding up to 195 years in prison.

Investigators say the victim told another relative, who notified law officers. Abbott's office helped prosecute the case.

San Saba is 100 miles northwest of Austin.
