A man in his mid- to late 40s was shot and killed today while sitting on the porch of a residence at 2302 E. 14th St., according to Chattanooga Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.

Witnesses told police that two suspects exited a vehicle and that several gunshots followed.

The man was wounded in the abdomen and was taken to Erlanger hospital, where he later died.

Police said there was a fight about an hour before the 1:24 p.m. shooting, but it was unclear whether the two events were related.

The victim’s name was not released pending notification of next of kin.

While investigating that shooting, officers received a report of another shooting in the vicinity of Tunnel Boulevard and Pinewood Avenue. One man was wounded in that shooting.

By mid-afternoon, police had responded to three shootings today in all. A car was shot up around 11 a.m. in the 1400 block of Ivy Street. No injuries were reported in that incident.

Police said it was unclear whether any of today’s shootings were related to a rash of shootings in the past two weeks.
