* Historic info: As Chattanooga flourished with the construction of the railroads in the mid-1800s into the 1900s, the Southside became the hub of Chattanooga - home to hotels, businesses and the post office. The Grand Terminal Station, opened in 1909, clinched Chattanooga's reputation as a railroad town and inspired the 1941 Glenn Miller song "Chattanooga Choo Choo." In the 1970s, local businessmen bought the building, turning it into a hotel.
