Chattanooga has a rich history of supporting art galleries and museums. Below is a list of some of the more prominent visual arts venues around the city.

* Area 61: 61 E. Main St. Hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. Free. 883-6459. Features local art and fine crafts.

* Association for Visual Arts (AVA): 30 Frazier Ave. Hours: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. Free. 265-4282. Exhibits, digital lab available for members.

* Bessie Smith Cultural Center: 200 M.L. King Blvd. Hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, noon-4 pm. Saturday, Sunday. Admission: $7 adults, $5 seniors/students, $3 ages 6-12. 266-8658. Showcasing art and memorabilia from African-American artists and culture.
