Obama will not release photo of bin Laden

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says the White House will not release a photo of Osama bin Laden's body.

Obama made the remarks during an interview Wednesday with CBS' "60 Minutes."

The White House had been weighing the release of a photo, in part to offer proof that bin Laden was killed during a raid on his compound early Monday. However, officials had cautioned that the photo was gruesome and could be inflammatory.

U.S. forces stormed the compound in Pakistan where bin Laden was hiding, then shot and killed the al-Qaida leader.

Lighthouse, one in the left eye and one in the temple and you think the man is still alive? Nope, it was a good kill.

Pretty sure the photos that are out there are fakes. It's easy to Photoshop nearly any photo these days. Remember on 9/11, the photo of the guy on one of the overlooks of the Twin Towers, carrying a backpack - the plane heading straight toward him? It was a fake.

@chatttn - so what would be acceptable proof if not a photo? a video of them "disposing" of the body? what else is there to prove he's dead? If he is still alive sooner or later he is sure to release one of his special, gloating home videos.

Those who believe already believe. Those who don't, don't.

If they release the photo those that don't believe will claim it is a fake and will not be convinced otherwise, so what difference does it make if it is released or not?

Good call. Decades from now they will declassify those photos for historians or something. OBL is dead and, frankly, the media has devoted enough attention to him.

So who's word do we really have that there was an attack and killing at all? Think about that and how many lies he has already told us.

There is no longer a Team 6 in any case, it having been disbanded and/or renamed a number of years back. But rumors abound...those there [if there were any] are keeping absolutely quiet. Most appropriate of them...they don't need the publicity -- they already know what they did and that is enough.

A bit more on-topic and more typical, why did theBama reportedly take 16 hours to decide to give the go-ahead order?

That man is just a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

He is the perfect example why only certain elected officials are briefed into very highly classified military operations and projects.

Elected officials crave publicity -- the doers avoid it.

During a press conference [or whatever], then-President Carter came within a hair of compromising our entire stealth aircraft program by commenting about "invisible airplanes". Luckily our damage control team came up with "Wonder Woman's glass plane" and other farcical things which defused the gaff.
