Investigators have identified the remains of a man who was found in a burning home early Tuesday morning.

Chattanooga firefighters responded to a fire at 1331 Ely Road where a small frame house had flames shooting through the roof.

Within a few minutes, firefighters had the fire under control, and 54-year-old James Curtis Peardon was found dead inside, according to authorities.

The Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of Peardon’s death was smoke inhalation.

Investigators are looking at what started the fire and the circumstances surrounding Peardon’s death. According to a nearby resident, no one was seen to be living in the home for the past month.
