Woman who slashed Bradley deputy was from Florida, TBI says

A woman shot by a Bradley County deputy after she knifed him and stole his cruiser Saturday has been identified as Armetta Foster, 30, from Florida, according to the TBI.

Kristin Helm, spokeswoman with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, said Foster died from a gunshot wound rather than injuries suffered when she crashed the stolen cruiser at Harrison Pike and Third Street in Cleveland, Tenn.

The TBI is heading the investigation into the Saturday confrontation on Interstate 75 in Cleveland.

Bradley County authorities said Saturday Foster was walking north on I-75 with her two children when Deputy Dustin Patrick pulled over and began talking to her, Bradley County authorities said.

She pulled a knife and began slashing at him, cutting him on the hand, officials said. As she ran to his cruiser, Patrick fired his service weapon. The car roared away northbound but left the interstate just past the Harrison Pike bridge, crashing through the fence and hitting a tree.

Foster was taken to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga, where she died. The children were placed in custody of the Department of Children’s Services.

Patrick is on administrative leave with pay, which is standard procedure in shooting incidents, authorities said.

Helm said today that she didn’t have information on Foster’s hometown but the investigation is ongoing.

What is wrong with you people? Yeah he wasnt hurt bad, but she was trying to hurt him bad. What if she got away and she pulled your loved one over stabbed them and took their car. What if she got one of the guns out and used them. Oh yeah turn the car off, he is on the interstate I think he might need his car on with his blue lights to warn people and most patrol cars have cameras in them. I say the car has to be on for the camera to record. This lady obviously is crazy and planned on killing anybody that had a car. Last but not least its illegal and dangerous to walk on the interstate im sure the deputy was just trying to help a lady and two kids get to an exit.

Officer Tim Chapin was a friend of my wife, he used a "less violent method" and had his life taken from him. What is this point of an officer of the law even carrying a fire arm if they aren't going to use them. The officer's duty is to serve and protect. Have we already forgotten Officer Chapin?

Boo Hoo for chapman, he knew the riskd of the job. To protect and serve? Yea, that takes a little brainwashing to swallow. Having lived in other parts of the country, and having known ACCREDDITED departments, these local good ol boys are legal thugs who lack professionalism in many deputies and go out of their way to cover up their lies, harrassment and criminal mindset only made legal by a tin bandge and a gun,

I have had my share of unpleasant encounters with the law, I've even been arrested, but when it comes to the safety of my family from a crazy woman with a knife, stolen police car and no value for human life, I agree with the force that was used to stop her. How many other countries in the world arm their police force with sub machine guns? There is no doubt that there are many crooked police officers who abuse their power and harass people who haven't done anything wrong, I have experienced it. But shame on you! for your comments on officer Chapin. He didn't do anything wrong to you, and you disrespect his name like that. Shame on you!
