CLEVELAND, Tenn. - A school bus plan was approved tonight by the Bradley County School Board to move students from Blue Springs Elementary School to five other elementary schools.

County Schools Director Johnny McDaniel said the county building inspector has deemed Blue Springs unsafe because of the damage it received in the April 27 tornadoes.

The bus plan calls for 89 students to be shifted to Black Fox Elementary. To make room, 46 current Black Fox students will be shifted to Prospect Elementary.

Another 109 Blue Springs students will be shifted to Waterville Community Elementary. In return, 39 Waterville students will be shifted to Oak Grove Elementary and another 30 to Taylor Elementary.

The shift involves bus routes only. Parents can apply to an out-of-zone school and be accepted if the principal has room for them and the families provide transportation.

The other county school badly damaged in the storms, Michigan Avenue Elementary, will be ready for the next school year, McDaniel said.

The board also directed McDaniel to negotiate with a Blue Springs Road property owner for a new Blue Springs school in the future.
