Power line gets regulatory OK

A Texas company that wants to build a $3.5 billion transmission system to move wind turbine energy east from the Oklahoma Panhandle region to the Tennessee Valley has gained public utility status in Oklahoma to potentially begin construction of the direct current line by 2014.

Clean Lines Energy of Houston must still gain regulatory approval for the project in Arkansas and Tennessee, but company vice president Mario Hurtado said 15 potential partners already have expressed interest.

TVA may buy power over the transmission line.
