Family escapes, but Red Bank house fire claims cats' lives

Sunday, November 13, 2011

Three housecats died tonight when a Red Bank house went up in flames.

The McSpadden family heard what Hamilton County Emergency Services spokeswoman Amy Maxwell called a sizzling sound in the living room and kitchen area on the first floor of a duplex at 4805 Alpine Dr.

Smoke was coming out of a power outlet in the floor, and after unsuccesfully trying to extinguish the flames, the family evacuated.

The second floor occupant and owner of the duplex, Jaynell Sanland, was not home during the fire.

Damages are estimated at $120,000, and no injuries were reported.

The Red Bank Fire Department will investigate the cause of the blaze, Maxwell said.
