Volkswagen and Motor Trend editor-in-chief today unveiled the magazine's Car of the Year award, which the Chattanooga-made Passat won earlier this week.

The award was unveiled to the cheers and applause of about 1,000 Volkswagen employees at the company's Chattanooga assembly plant.

Angus MacKenzie, Motor Trend's editor-in-chief, said that winning the award is "a remarkable achievement" by a new factory.

"Building a car is an extremely complicated process," he said. "This award is your award."

In addition, VW officials announced plans for new daycare facilities for the children of plant workers. The new facility will be located at Erlanger's Volkswagen Drive location.
