Coleman goes entire game

Freshman quarterback Terrell Robinson waited for the coaches to call his number and put him in the game.

The call never came in a 28-27 loss to Wofford on Saturday in Finley Stadium.

"They couldn't stop B.J. [Coleman] and I was like, 'Roll with whatever works,'" Robinson said. "I was ready at the same time. They were going to put me in, but it's a hard decision to make."

Senior starter Coleman rolled through the first half so easily that playing Robinson never entered the equation.

"It was a clinic, like a highlight tape by the quarterback in the first half," Wofford coach Mike Ayers said. "Thank God we were able to come up with some plays in the second half. When he knows what's up, you're not stopping him."

The coaching staff stuck with Coleman as Wofford pulled within 21-14 in the third quarter and within 27-21 with eight minutes to play.

"B.J. was playing really good and we were moving the ball," coach Russ Huesman said, "even in the second half."

Coleman completed 23 of 39 passes for 232 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Terriers able to run

The Terriers' offense worked in fits and spurts. At times their option stalled due to UTC's defense.

Wofford gained 112 of its rushing yards in the fourth quarter and finished with 358 in the game. Donovan Johnson had 141 yards and two touchdowns, including a demoralizing 51-yarder that pulled Wofford to within 27-21 with 8:08 to play.

Eric Breitenstein did the heavy lifting with 30 carries for 140 yards and a third-quarter touchdown.

"They moved the ball on everybody this year," Huesman said. "They're No. 1 in the country. We were playing good enough on defense to survive."

Numbers down some

The announced attendance was 8,165 including former Moc and NFL All-Pro Terrell Owens. Saturday's attendance was the lowest attended game in the Huesman era.

However, it put the season attendance over 50,000 and marks the third straight year that UTC has averaged more than 10,000 fans per game.
