A Chattanooga police officer has been charged with assault after a road-rage incident over the weekend.

Officer Greg Chambers turned himself in, said police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.

Christopher Smith of 5512 Pearl St. in Ooltewah filed a complaint with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office against Chambers, Weary said. According to Smith, Chambers came to his home and pulled a Taser on him Saturday night.

The Internal Affairs Division of the Chattanooga Police Department is conducting an internal investigation into the matter, Weary said, but the investigation will be led by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

Chambers has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Pigs are on a roll locally as well as nationally. I can't believe it, but I may need to arm myself to protect myself from my protectors. Jesus AK-47 Christ, how sad is that?

If this is the same Officer Greg Chambers involved in the beating death of that professor's son back in 2003 or 2002, he and the others involved should have been fired then. Too many of the bad apples get 2nd, 3rd, 4th on up to 100+ chances. That's what is bringing the entire profession down. The fact they rarely do anything about the bad apples, and the bad apples are aware of this. That's why they keep committing the same abuses and criminal acts over and over that would land the average citizen in jail or prison for a very long time.

Like most any criminal who commits a crime, gets caught and is not punished, the culprit becomes more embolden.

There is so much more to this story that is not being said... I guarantee something else will come out like it always does.

jess, it really doesn't matter what kind of rap sheet Smith has. The issue is did this officer step across the line? Did he commit a crime? Smith's criminal history is a separate matter. Maybe you should pull up this officers' personnel file to determine if he's just another ticking time bomb.

Getting arresting in America has become so commonplace that it's almost impossible to not end up with an arrest at some point in your lifetime. The only individuals without an arrest record are like those who have only newly arrived from another country.

In a country where every act comes to be considered a crime, every citizen is likely to become a criminal at some point.

In today's America one can be arrested for most anything. If there's nothing, many cops will think up something or even lie to make an arrest. That's what happens when so much power and authority are given to individuals who never deserved it in the first place.

BTW-jess, next time you try to pull up someone's rap sheet be sure to compare the name and b'date. The last name Smith is quite common, and so is the name Christopher. There are several Christopher Smiths on the site you probably went to, but either none or very few appear to be this particular Christopher Smith on closer look.

OMG I am loving this. pNc- I can't agree more. The servants have become the masters in a sense. We shouldn't have to fear driving around at 2 a.m. on streets that we pay for, getting pulled over and hassled just because it's late by pigs that we pay for. I am SICK and TIRED of cops and their attitudes, TSA and their attitude- I mean f them- I'd rather protect myself if putting up w/ their horsesh*t is what it takes to get "protected."

I got news for you, wgroover. The pigs don't have any mandate to "protect" you from ANYTHING, and if I were you, I wouldn't expect it. The only mandate they have is to arrest the perp AFTER he's already either beaten the crap out of you or shot you. And they don't do much of a job of that. They are all arrogant Neanderthals and all you can expect out them is to be hassled and possibly assaulted by them. I speak from first hand experience. I just wish we could pay them to leave us the hell alone and let us live our lives and defend OURSELVES without their interference.

Fist of all guys, while I don't know this Smith guy I can't comment on him, there has to be more to this story. Not all cops are dirty. I was watching this on the news and they brought Ms. Prater on there talking about what kind of person that he is. While I am sorry for the loss of her son, she doesn't know Officer Chambers and really doesn't know what kind of person that he is. I know him personally and he is really a nice guy. No one really knows what happened but him and Mr. Smith. Everyone wants to down cops when something comes up. I am sure that Ms. Prater would not like someone talking about her son that didn't know him so why is the news bringing her in to talk about someone that she doesn't know? The incident was ten years ago when he was fresh on the force. This man has spent his entire career protecting this city and when one thing is said by someone (that may or may not be a reliable source) we want to turn on the same people that we call to protect us. If we turn our back on him, why not turn on all cops? They have made mistakes too? How are they different? Greg Chambers is a loyal husband, officer, son and friend. Please know your facts about someone before you pass judgement.

"charlyangel" I don't care how well you claim to know Chambers, he's still a Neanderthal just like all of them and probably a murderer on top of that! They're all violent, trigger happy hydrochephalic gorrillas and I'll tell any of them that to their faces! I would be willing to bet real money that Chambers did exactly what Chris Smith said he did. It fits perfectly with their mentality, every damned last one of them. YOU call on them to defend you if you want to, and good luck with that! I keep guns in my house loaded and ready to defend myself against the damned police! I've never had problems with criminals, just with the "gestapo"!

pNc was quite correct when he/she said: "Getting arresting in America has become so commonplace that it's almost impossible to not end up with an arrest at some point in your lifetime." It brings to mind one of the greatest Ayn Rand quotes ever: "There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws." - Ayn Rand
I am not personally accquanted with pNc, but he/she strikes me as VERY intelligent individual who understands that the "criminal" justice system in this country is not here to dispense justice, but instead it's reason for existance is to make slaves of us all. I, for one, will not let them do that to me. I will not obey their uniformed criminals, and I will fight everytime they lay hands on me.

sundevil1 maybe it's you who doesn't have a clue. I have been harassed and bullied by cops ever since I was in high school and I never did ONE DAMN THING to deserve it. I'm sure you don't believe that, but it is absolutely true. I have even been threatened with a beating with a billy club when simply getting out of my car at a Krystal restaurant. No explaination, no nothing, simply "Get back in that car, crank it up and get out of here!" Nothing they "go through" justifies that type of behavior. I doubt seriously that Chambers is "innocent". NONE of them are innocent. They are all uniformed criminals who should be in the jails they run. Suppose you tell us how you know what they "go through" or admit you can't and shut the hell up!

sundevil1, It is amazing how many of us have no problem with the police. When a patrol car passes my house, I wave and the officer waves. He doesn't fear me nor I him. He's welcome in my neighborhood.

The police investigating themselves! I can almost tell you how that's going to turn out. This maniac will be found innocent and turned loose to run around threatening people again. Why isn't this being investigated by an independant agency? Are they afraid this violent jerk will be exposed for what he is? A stormtrooper who beats on people and uses a TASER as the torture device it is? I detect the distinctive odor of whitewash!
