The 2009 idling of the General Motors plant in Spring Hill, Tenn., and the layoffs of 2,000 workers were a blow to the state.
So it is encouraging that GM has announced it will hire about 1,900 total employees over the next few years to begin building the Chevrolet Equinox and an unspecified midsize vehicle at the plant. The total investment is expected to be more than $240 million.
"The best economic stimulus that there is is a job," said Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn.
She's right, and we welcome the Chevy jobs back to the state.
