Mocs LBs make media 2nd team

Football coaches and the media aren't necessarily known for seeing eye to eye on everything. That's certainly the case when it comes to picking the All-Southern Conference linebackers.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Wes Dothard and Ryan Consiglio and Appalachian State's Jeremy Kimbrough were the first-team linebackers on the coaches' All-SoCon team, released Tuesday. The second-team trio was Elon's Joshua Jones, Furman's Kadarron Anderson and Wofford's Alvin Scioneaux.

The media's all-conference teams were announced Wednesday and the first and second teams were the opposite of the coaches', meaning Consiglio and Dothard had to settle for second-team honors.

"How could you ... who were y'all watching?" Mocs coach Russ Huesman asked, somewhat playfully. "I don't think you guys looked at anything other than tackles. There were a bunch of good linebackers, but if you look at the overall body of work ... it's not even close."

The only UTC player to make the media's first team was defensive end Josh Williams, who led the SoCon with 9.5 sacks.

Wide receiver Joel Bradford made the second-team offense and safety D.J. Key and cornerback Kadeem Wise joined Consiglio and Dothard on the second-team defense.

Quarterback Terrell Robinson was named the Freshman of the Year, an award the coaches had him share with Georgia Southern's Dominique Swope. That's back to back top freshman honors for the Mocs after Wise won the award last season.

Just like the coaches, the media voted Wofford fullback Eric Breitenstein the offensive player of the year, Georgia Southern defensive tackle Brent Russell the top defensive player and Eagles coach Jeff Monken the top coach.

Georgia Southern kicker Adrian Mora, of Dalton, was voted first-team All-SoCon by the coaches and media.
