Kayakers returned safely from Pocket WildernessA search was launched Sunday after three kayakers failed to return from the North Chickamauga Pocket Wilderness near Mowbray Mountain. The kayakers were caught by rapidly rising waters and spent the night on the shore, then safely returned Monday afternoon.
Three male kayakers who failed to return home Sunday have reportedly been found safe.
Cody Stokes, 22, Jason McCroskey, 23, and David Levitt, 35, were found walking out of the Pocket Wilderness trails wet and hungry but uninjured, according to a news release from Hamilton County Emergency Services.
Earlier 14 rescue team members had headed to Paradise Falls in the Pocket Wilderness area on Mowbray Mountain to "watch" the falls for any sign of the three missing kayakers.
Mowbray Mountain Fire officials had previously reported that they had four teams going to the falls.
Fire personnel had also been stationed at the mouth of Chickamauga Creek to watch for the kayakers as well, Amy Maxwell of the Hamilton County Emergency Services said.
Emergency responders have been searching the Barker Park area in the Pocket Wilderness.
