Middle Tennessee state senior Hunter Green from Rhea County was the Sun Belt Conference men's golfer of the month for September. He already had been declared national player of the week for his 54-hole medalist score of 205 in the Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt at the end of the month. Earlier he was 11th in the 60-player field at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm in Rocky Face, Ga. He is fifth at 136 after Mondoay's first two rounds of the Jerry Pate Invitational at Vestavia Hills, Ala. McMinnville's Brett Patterson has eighth-place MTSU's second best score, tied for 21st at 145.
DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. -- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team is tied for seventh out of 13 teams at 608 (306-302) after the first two rounds of the Rees Jones Invitational at Haig Point Golf Club. Iowa State leads at 594 with South Carolina second at 598. The Mocs' Stephan Jaeger and Chris Robb are tied for 11th at 5-over-par 149, and Steven Fox shares 26th place at 153.
ROME, Ga. -- Lee University took the first-day lead by six strokes Monday in the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational men's golf tournament at Coosa Country Club with a 286, paced by Hunter Vest sharing first place at 69 and Matt Emery tied for fifth at 70. The Flames' Tyler Smith and Jeremy Lawson are tied for 14th and 19th at 73 and 74. Covenant is 18th out of 19 teams at 319, led by Alex Mosteller in a tie for 28th at 75.
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- With Courtney Shelton tied for second at 75, Sloane Skinner tied for fourth at 76 and Madison Alexander sharing eighth place individuallyat 77, Lee University tied Northwood University from Florida for first place Monday in the first round of the NAIA Women's Preview. Each team totaled 309 at Link Hills Golf and Country Club. Kristin Bourg added an 81 for Lee. Tennessee Wesleyan is 12th out of 15 teams at 344, and Bryan is 15th at 378. TWC's Lexi Stewart and Kendall Crosby are tied for 40th and 42nd at 83 and 84, and Stephanie Carr shares 46th with Bryan's Audrey Nelson at 85.
