Fire and Ice club back at Chattanooga Beer and Wrecker Board

The 807 Fire and Ice club will face the Chattanooga Beer and Wrecker Board again, just weeks after the board suspended the nightclub's beer permit for 30 days.

On Sept. 15, the Beer Board suspended Fire and Ice's permit because of a disorderly crowd incident on Aug. 14. On Oct. 20, board members will decide if and how to punish Fire and Ice for another reported disorderly crowd incident from Sept. 10.

At its meeting Thursday, the board passed on hearing the latest matter. Fire and Ice officials wanted to have the hearing in November, however, Beer Board Vice Chairman Christopher Keene said the complaint needed to be addressed sooner than that because the club appears to be causing repeated problems.

"It just can't linger on," Keene said. "We've got to get it under control."

Fire and Ice continued to operate and sell liquor after its beer suspension began.

Also at Thursday's meeting, the board unanimously voted to dismiss a complaint against Track 29 from the music club's opening night.

The complaint stated that, during an incident on Sept. 1, police came to Track 29 -- part of the Chattanooga Choo Choo complex at 1400 Market St. -- because a man was acting combatively and Track 29's security wanted him removed. The man, Timothy Hicks, got into an altercation with a police officer before he was arrested, and another man also was taken into police custody.

Josh McManus, the manager on duty at the time, called the event "an unfortunate and isolated incident." A police officer at the Beer Board meeting agreed that there was nothing Track 29 could have done differently to handle the situation.

"It sounds to me what they did was right," Keene said. "They went by the book."
