THINGS I WISH MY KIDS WOULD ASK ME

EditoR'S NOTE: Barry Courter has a 22-year-old son who recently graduated from college and a 17-year-old daughter who is a senior in high school.

Q: Dad, any advice on how to tackle a really huge project?

A: Only that it's kind of like the old saying about how do you eat an entire elephant -- one bite at a time. We've all had homework or a work project or a story due that is so large or full of so many items that it is overwhelming. Look it over well once or twice, figure out as best you can what the end result should be and then start. If need be, do the parts you can do first, but often just getting started is the hardest part.

TECH GEAR

  • What: Maxell AirStash wireless flash drive for handheld smart devices.

Maxell says this is "The World's First and Only Wireless Flash Drive for iPad and iPhone" and other handheld smart devices. I can't either confirm or deny that, but what I can say is the AirStash worked great. The deviceo it, along with an SD card slot for memory (up to 32GB) and a USB connection. For setup, all you do is select the AirStash as your wireless device and, assuming you have already loaded the SD card with some type of data (music, photos, video, text), you insert it into the AirStash device. To access the contents via Wi-Fi, just type airstash.net in the address bar of any browser, and your content appears in seconds.

FACEBOOK ON IPAD

Facebook's new free iPad app could gain even more momentum for Apple -- and Facebook. There is no Facebook app tailored just for tablets running Google's Android software. That alone could generate new Apple customers, choosing to buy an iPad instead of another tablet to connect to the world's most popular social media site. Photos and videos are the real bonuses, now viewable in full on the iPad's screen. Users also can shoot photos and videos with the iPad and post them directly into the Facebook news feed. The app also includes gamcebook Chat. iPhone users also could benefit, because some of the features on the iPad app will be incorporated into the iPhone's app. Get it for free at the iTunes Store.
