A 22-year-old man claims he was robbed this morning by a group of males who “kicked, punch and beat him down to the ground,” according to police.
The assault was interrupted when Casey came back to the car. The suspects were able to get away with Pellom’s wallet.
Paul Cody Pellom went to Erlanger hospital were he was treated and released for cuts and bruises after the assault, said Chattanooga police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.
Pellom told police that he and a friend, Steve Casey, were sitting in Pellom’s car at 700 E. Fifth Street when a rock shattered one of the windows. Casey got out and chased the alleged suspect, while Pellom got out to inspect the damage to his car, Weary said.
Pellom said he was suddenly surrounded by a group of black males that kicked, punch and beat him down to the ground, Weary said. The assault stopped when Casey came back to the car, she said, but the suspects got away with Pellom’s wallet.
Casey was not injured.
Investigators are working with police at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to establish leads in the case but have not made any arrests.

this story seems jumbled. perhaps an editor will check . . .
When exactly did this happen in the morning. 3AM or 9AM. Bad things usually happen downtown between midnight and sun up. It would be more of a concern if it happened during school hours.
Hmmmm! Something about this story sounds suspicious. I agree, moon4kat, the story seems jumbled.
Apparently, a nameless staff reporter wrote it. Perhaps a newbie undergrad student? I did not like the colloquialism used in the opening,“kicked, punch and beat him down to the ground.” Poor taste of words; verbage if you will.
"Roughed him up" would have been much better. Less explosive.
Use of the words "black males" was also unfortunate. Much too explosive, if not outright racist.
Best to leave the sheeple blissfully ignorant of what is happening in the US.
Maybe the city can put up "crime free zone" signs - that should fix it.
RIGHT ON ROLANDO, IF THE ROBBERY HAD HAPPENED AT NIGHT, HOW WOULD THE VICTIMS KNOW THE THUGS WERE BLACK?
If I didn't know better, I'd think this was a possible drug deal turned bad. But of course, we know there's no possible way these upstanding young men would even remotely be involved in such a thing, right?
