Georgia high school coach severely beaten after game

WARRENTON, Ga. — A school superintendent says she plans to ask the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to file charges after a high school football coach was attacked after a football game.

Warren County Schools Superintendent Carole Jean Carey tells WRDW-TV that she wants those responsible for the beating to be held accountable.

Carey said that Warren County High School Coach David Daniels was hospitalized, and underwent major reconstructive surgery to his face. Carey said he has crushed bones above and below his eye, and surgeons had to place metal plates in his face.

Carey says a fight broke out after Friday night's game in Hancock County.

Carey tells The Augusta Chronicle that one of the football players smashed the coach in the head with a helmet after he intervened in a dispute between players.

Fights after high school football games is becoming frequent. Perhaps it's time to do away with the sport and encourage all former players to participate in wrestling.

eileencard... football doesn't crush eye sockets, helmets do. We should keep football and outlaw helmets. Furthermore, wrestling is a little too homoerotic.
