Dalton police have released a surveillance photo of a vehicle suspected of being involved in the placement of a "card skimmer" device last week at a Regions Bank.

The skimmer device can be inserted over the top of the ATM card reader and can store information retrievable by a hacker, according to police.

The vehicle shown in the photograph is a burgundy or red Audi, bearing a distinctive black designer-type tag on the front. Police spokesman Bruce Frazier said the driver was wearing a hood while at the drive-through.

Dalton police say that about 6:45 p.m. Thursday, the car pulled into the drive-through ATM at Walnut Avenue and Tibbs Road and the driver placed the "skimmer" device over the card reader and pulled away.

The skimmer was discovered Friday after the device triggered an alarm.

Anyone who used the ATM between the evening of Oct. 13 and the morning of Oct. 14 should monitor their accounts to watch for fraudulent activity, police say.

Anyone with information on the red or burgundy Audi or this crime is asked to contact Dalton Police Detective Ricky Long at 706-278-9085, ext. 168.
