Coach Mark Guhne called it a solid start to the season for his University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team.

The Mocs shot a 1-under-par 287 in the first round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Friday at The Farm Golf Club at Rocky Face, Ga. That puts them one shot behind Georgia Tech and tied with Clemson heading into the weekend.

"We got off to a really good start and things are moving along quite well," Guhne said. "I don't think they played as good as they can, but they played solid."

UTC senior Stephan Jaeger from Baylor leads the medalist race with a 4-under 68. UTC sophomores Davis Bunn and Benni Weilguni are tied for 14th at 72.

"Jaeger played a very solid round of golf and he didn't make any mistakes," Guhne said. "He's been playing well and continued that today."

Michael Cromie of Georgia and Drew Czuchry of Georgia Tech are tied for second at 69. Former Rhea County golfer Hunter Green of Middle Tennessee is tied for fourth at 70.

Georgia is in fourth place at 1 over and leads Auburn by one shot, Alabama by two and Tennessee by four.
